Devil’s Lake – Mission, British Columbia
There’s been a trail down to Devil’s Lake for years, but fairly recently a trail was built around the entire loop of the lake! It’s absolutely beautiful and very worthwhile doing.
Not only are there bridges…but there’s a floating bridge at the end of the loop (if you go the way we describe here).
You’ll be able to see the parking lot to Devil’s Lake on your right-hand side as you go up Burma road.
The trail starts by going down some stairs. It’s very well-groomed and it’s quite obvious where you need to go. You’re going to be heading left and down towards the lake.
You’ll reach a junction where you have the option to go right to the lake or to keep heading left to go around it. Trust us, if you go to the lake now you’re going to be stuck there for a while. It’s best to keep going on the hike and promise a dip after you’re all done the loop around Devil’s Lake.
There are loads of beautiful bridges along the trail. For the first while it’s quite flat. This is how it is until you reach one peak of the lake and then the elevation picks up a bit.
There are a few spots where you’re climbing a bit of an incline. There are a few stairs and “root-y” areas. You don’t go up for long, though. The trail plateaus frequently .
You get to see Devil’s Lake for almost this entire portion of the trail!
As you near the other end of Devil’s Lake you come to the floating bridge. This is a welcome site after a hot day as it’s perfect to dip your feet in. This could be a spot to take a dip, but there is beach access further down the trail.
Jellybean Rating Summary for Devil’s Lake
We gave Devil’s Lake a 3/5 on the Jellybean Rating scale. It took a bit of time to get around, but there’s certainly a lot to see and navigate to keep the kids’ minds off how long it took. The lake is a nice spot to have a dip at the end of the hike, and the lake is close enough to the parking lot that you could leave your swim stuff in the car until you come back.
